Dark vs. Duck

The boys like to inform us that "it's dark" when the sun goes behind some clouds or we pass under some thick foliage. The other day we were driving along and the boys were gazing out the car windows when darkness fell, prompting Caleb to announce, "it's dark!" Keep in mind that when Caleb says "dark" it sounds more like "dahk". As usual, Joshua felt compelled to immediately correct his brother. "Caleb," he said, "it's not a duck, it's a bird!"

  1. Speaking of words sounding like something else... I
Let me start by saying that Addison and I frequently visit ourbabywolf.com to see what is new with “her boys” as she calls them. She likes to look at the pictures while we talk about what the boys are up to and she absolutely loves to watch the videos. Watching her boys ranks much higher than any Baby Einstein video we own and even beats out Thomas and Friends. She giggles and laughs and comments on the show and she gets upset when either of the twins are crying or even look the slightest bid distressed. In fact, the video of them in superman pj’s from last March is strictly off limits because she gets so disturbed that “boy crying!”
So, the other evening we were reading her Noah’s Ark book (which is one of her favorites) before bed when all of a sudden she hopped off my lap, grabbed the book, and headed into the living room. When I came around the corner to get her she was standing next to the coffee table (where my computer was at the time) saying, “k-up? k-up? k-up? Pees?” I went to pick her up thinking that “k-up pees” was “okay, pick me up, please” but she refused me and became more persistent in repeating, “ k-up, k-up.” She offered me the book saying, “ark” and then continued with the “k-up’s.” Seeing as how it was bedtime, I tried to wrangle her up and take her back to the bedroom but I was met with quite a bit of resistance. "K UP! K UP! ARK! K UP!" It wasn’t until she started trying to open the computer that she added “Joshwah” and I figured out that she was requesting K-up and Joshwah, her boys! Normally, I would not have given into this request considering that she was screaming and stomping her feet in true tantrum style but I felt bad that I hadn’t understood her original request (which did include please) so I pulled up the most recent videos. She immediately picked up her Noah’s Ark book and started picking out the animals along with “k-up” as “Joshwah” quizzed them! I wish I had my video camera nearby...

  2. That is the cutest story I've heard in a long time! What a sweet girl... I miss her! It sounds like Addison does a better job saying Caleb's name than he does... his rendition sounds more like "Kay-reh". I am so glad that she is enjoying the movies... the boys seem to like them (and any other amateur movie involving babies and toddlers) more than the professional stuff, too. I'm sure they would love to see some of Addison in action if you ever want to share... they sure do enjoy seeing her Smileboxes, that's for sure!
